Digital Touch
I was 18 the first time I logged onto the internet…1995 was the first time I used a cell phone…Elementary school was the first time I remember using a personal computer. I can only wonder what technological gem will inspire my first trial
20 years from now!
Technology is connecting us digitally more than at any point before. We get news online, we shop online, we work online and we connect with distant family online. The power of the internet, smartphones, tablets and so on is undeniable. These things keep us connected wherever we are; home, work, school or in the car.
The Power
The power of contemporary digital devices is 50% in their ability to connect us to anyone in the world. The other 50% of their power is in the content that we choose to deliver through them. You can send someone a video of a giant schnauzer playing drums or you can send them information about a hospital that can treat a serious ailment or about an amazing school that may shape their child’s future. The devices that we use everyday give us the power to share existing content and to share original content that we create! This is real power to affect our world and our lives. In 1995 I could not share a blog or promote a business via a smartphone…Today this is a reality. Therefore, I implore you to use today’s digital connectivity to do the things that were not possible 20 years ago. Leveraging contemporary technology has improved our society by allowing individuals and businesses to connect and share their original ideas directly with the public like never before. Here are three notable examples:
Facebook - A social networking website that was initially founded for Harvard students, by an active Harvard student.
Go Pro - A digital camera maker that leverages social media and video to showcase the excellence of their products.
Adele - A multi-platinum musician initially discovered on MySpace.com after uploading samples of her vocal talent.
Your ideas or business are as worthy as any of these examples. But you need to set a goal and determine how you would like to connect with your audience; and then provide them with compelling useful content that supports that goal.
